Project 2_Emma Wiliford
The idea/concept for this project came from my memories of sensory videos I watched when I was very young. I watched the Baby Einstein's videos all the time as a very small kid, and the concept for this project came from those memories. Those videos for toddlers usually have very simple happy sounds/music, and they also use abstract visuals (colors, shapes, various toys and objects.). Something they also used a lot was puppets, who made noises instead of speaking.
I wanted to recreate this style the best I could in a small time-frame with no budget, so I just used eyes on my hand (also inspired by Oobi.) I added dramatic lighting in editing as well, since dark backgrounds were always used during the puppet segments of Baby Einstein's. I wanted to add an extra element of humor so I used a "fly" that bugs the puppet (this was also inspired by a very similar segment on the Muppet Show.) The sounds I used come from a mix of original and existing recordings. The background music and some of the extra noises come from Super Mario World for the SNES, a game I played a lot as a kid.
All the "singing" sounds
from the puppet come from a free online synthesizer that I recorded in
real time to the video, then distorted the audio in premiere to give it a
less static and more dynamic sound. I used many unnatural/synthesized sounds because I wanted to create an environment that feels alien and like it could not exist in the natural world.
